If You Love Jesus (John 14:15)

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”- John 14:15
In John 14:15 Jesus clearly states that if we love him, we should keep his commandments. Out of love we are called to be obedient to his commandments and keep them written in our hearts. In Exodus chapter 20, verses 1-17 we see the commandments that the Lord has given to the people of the world. ” And God spoke all these words saying; I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, you shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep my commandments. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God and, In it you shall do no work; you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house, you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbors.”. God’s word is true, pure, holy and his commands are given to point us in the same way of being true, pure, and holy. If we love the Lord who sent his one and only son (Jesus) to die on a cross for our sins so that we could be forgiven, we should keep his commandments. 1 John 5:3 says, “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments, And his commandments are not burdensome.”. God desires for us to keep his commandments and wants us to know that his commandments which he has given us aren’t burdensome. Matthew 11:30 says, “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”. The yoke of God is easy and the burden of his commandments and living a life dedicated to him is light. The Lord has told us that the burden is light, and he will not give us more then we can handle so i believe it comes down to trust, obedience, and love. I need to trust that the Lord has given me these commandments for the greater good, he is not holding anything back from me but his has a plan full of blessings when things are done his way. I need to be obedient to his commandments because, I love him and he has asked me to keep them in my heart as I follow him. Finally, I need to love the Lord my God for he has given me everything, when I deserve nothing and be invested into the opportunities he places before me. I love the Lord, so I will keep his commandments.
